Abode Iota Alarm Review

camera spy

Abode is proud to introduce the new Abode alarm, which comes in a number of different smart home security kits or devices. The product is very similar to other products from the company. However, it does support Apple HomeKit.

The iota central hub is the brains of the system. It has Wi-Fi, abodeRF, an RF radio that connects devices made by other manufacturers and a Micro SD Card slot (available for free) for local video recording storage. The iota hub also supports both Z-Wave (for home networking) and ZigBee (for connecting devices from other manufacturers), as well as a Micro SD card slot for local storage of video recordings.

Iota Security Camera

The iota has a high-quality camera with a resolution of 1080p and a dedicated movement detector. The camera also has an emergency battery built in, so it will keep recording even if the power goes out or the internet is lost.

It's also compatible both with Apple HomeKit (and Alexa), so you are able to use voice control for arming and disarming your system. You can also set up automations that perform different actions depending on certain events captured by the camera, like recording when a particular door opens, or flashing a light when an alarm goes off.

Away Mode

The iota away mode is yet another upgrade from the previous generation. You have 60 seconds to leave the building before the system has to be disarmed. This reduces the likelihood of getting false alarms, especially in busy neighborhoods.

Fast Response Times

Responses were very fast, especially when it came to arming/disarming the system as well as opening windows via the Mini Door/Window detector. The Abode and iOS Home apps sent us notifications within seconds. We also saw the countdown timer on the key fob.

CUE Automations

Abode's Iota Hub has a feature named Cue, which allows you to create automations using the device. This is similar to what you can do on IFTTT. It's still in beta but is a great way to link different actions with simple rules.

Automated routines let you set schedules that control when and how the iota arm or disarms. You can also automate routines that turn the lights on when the alarm sounds, or disarms. And set timers when you are away.

Iota All in One

The iota is an excellent all-in-one home security kit, with fast response times, excellent HomeKit integration, and plenty of room to grow. It's not quite as versatile or feature-packed as Ring or Nest Secure, but it is easy to install. It's a great smart home alarm that we highly recommend.

How To

What to look for in a Home Security Monitoring company

There are many things you should consider when selecting a home security monitoring service. Make sure you have someone who is familiar with what they are doing. Ask around to find out if there are any other people who have used this service provider. Don't trust anyone recommending them. Ask family and friends if the company is worth their recommendation. This way you get honest feedback from people who actually use the services. You can also read customer reviews online. Check out their website. You can read customer testimonials and complaints. Look at any negative comments and try to find out why they were posted. It could indicate that someone has done something wrong to the client.

Next is to verify references. Call up past clients and ask them how they liked the service. Were they happy with the quality of the work? Was everything done according to plan? Verify that the company you used was trustworthy and reliable. They didn't give you a quotation and then leave without completing the job.

Next, find a licensed company and one that is insured. A good policy of insurance will protect your property if it is damaged while you're gone. So that you don't have worry about calling them during office hours, the best companies offer 24/7 emergency service.

Make sure to check whether maintenance and installation is included with the price. Some companies charge extra for these services, which makes sense because installing and maintaining equipment takes time and money. Some companies only offer basic monitoring services which are not sufficient for most homeowners.

Ensure that the company has reasonable prices. You shouldn't be paying too much for a substandard product. When comparing different providers, always compare apples to apples. If a provider charges $150 per monthly for basic monitoring, then another provider might charge $200 for the same service. You should shop around if you are looking to save money.
